Denim Chore Coat from American department store Montgomery Ward, ca. 1970s. Carefully hand stitched for durability and flare.
Stitches were added to all the places jackets tend to wear out first: the inside collar, edges of the placket and cuffs, around elbows and button holes.
"Asanoha" (hemp leaf) in red. Reinforced stitches on front placket and details under collar in red and black.
The pattern from the front carries over the left shoulder and turns from red to black, except for one rogue thread.
"Shippo Tsunagi" (linked seven treasures) in red and black thread. Reinforcement on pocket, abstract details on underside of collar.
Inside view of Asanoha pattern
"Hitomezashi" (one-stitch): checker pattern on elbows and slanted "+" stitches on the cuffs
